The Wednesday Wayfarers are a walking group based around the Community Centre. We have a programme of local walks, as well as organised trips to more remote locations
The group meet on Wednesday mornings at 9:15 ready to set off at 9:30 prompt. The location and distance of the walks is not decided until we meet up, and is dependent on weather conditions and the number of members in attendance. Each week there will be at least 2 walks put forward by members: depending on the number of people attending, this usually works out to between 12 and 20 on each walk.
We walk for between 5-8 miles predominately within about a 30 mile radius of Grenoside (maximum 1 hours drive). Our favourite areas include the Peak District and Holmfirth. Members take it in turns to drive to the walk locations.
On the second Wednesday of the month from April and September inclusive, and the first Wednesday in October, we have instead a coach trip to more distant walking venues. We set off at 8am on these coach trips. This year we have walked in Swaledale and the East Coast and the Yorkshire Wolds
We have approximately 70 members and are always on the look out for new members. There is no charge to join the Wayfarers and members just turn up to walk whenever they are free on a Wednesday. There is no obligation to turn up every week once introduced to the group.
